Terms and Conditions

To be a contestant on MasterChef you must fall within the following criteria:

You must be aged 18 years or over.

You must be resident of the UK (including Northern Ireland and Channel Islands).

You cannot have any formal NVQ or other professional catering qualifications acquired in the last 10 years.

You cannot have worked full time as a chef in a restaurant.

Your main source of income cannot come from preparing and cooking fresh food in a professional environment (restaurant, hotels, canteens etc).

You must be able to commit to all the filming days required.

You cannot be or be closely related to a member of the BBC or Shine Ltd staff.

You cannot have been convicted of any serious crime.

We will be unable to reply to all applicants individually. It could be several weeks before you hear from us and you will only hear from us if you have been short listed to take part in the competition.

Submission of an application form and compliance with these terms and conditions does not in any way constitute an offer to audition or to participate in the series. The Producers may (but may not) invite you to attend an interview at their discretion. When selecting applicants for MasterChef, the following issues will be taken into account: skill, enthusiasm, drive, love of food, desire to change your life. The Production team's decisions regarding selection to the programmes are final.

If you have indicated on the Application Form that you wish to be considered for participation in the series, your personal details will be included in a database compiled for this purpose. In the event that you do participate in the series, then prior to and as a condition for your participation, you will be required to sign a separate Contributors Agreement with us. This Agreement will provide that in consideration of your participation in the series, we will own all of the rights in the series including your contribution which will be freely available for broadcast and all other media purposes without any payment to you.

The information you supply on this form may be stored by Shine Limited on computer and will be used for the purposes of selecting contestants and producing "Masterchef" a television series initially produced for the BBC. We will not supply this information to third parties or use for other opportunities other than as is reasonably necessary to select contestants and produce the series unless you have expressly consented to us doing so by answering the question "Would you like us to contact you about future applications and other opportunities?" with "Yes".
